As demands for electrification of vehicles grow, battery safety issues become more important in relative terms. This presentation aims to introduce our 2 activities which battery thermal runaway simulation should consist of. One is a temperature prediction during charging/discharging, and the other one is a deformation prediction under crash situation. We used Ansys LS-DYNA for simulation and the test was also carried out respectively. Charging/discharging simulation showed good agreement in temperature on battery case with the test. In crash simulation, we got similar failure behavior and force history compared to the test, which shows the possibility of representing internal short circuit.
